Please see the official ML_Photonica flyer created by the Workshop’s organizers.
The event is being prepared in collaboration with Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, Optical Society of Serbia and programme partners H2020-COFUND-MULTIPLY and H2020-EID-FONTE.
The name of the symposium reflects the two-way transfer of knowledge between the disciplines – the topics covered thus include not only applications of ML in photonics, but also how photonics is fostering the ML revolution itself. This symposium will be bringing together specialists in photonics applying advanced machine learning techniques. It will be a wonderful opportunity for crossdisciplinary interaction, and to facilitate incubation of new ideas.
The symposium will be attended by leading academics in the field of photonics and machine learning, early career researchers and PhD students, who work in photonics and allied fields of interest.
The two-day event will take place 26th-27th Aug 2019 at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade, Serbia.

Tasks on Secondments of DIASENS Researchers
Researchers from DIASENS Dr. Aleksandra Maluchkov and Dr. Marija Ivanovic completed recently their secondments to one of the CARDIALLY partners UNIBS. Both researchers are developing new statistical methods, based on the study of complex and chaotic systems in nature (oceans, biological systems, photonics, matter-wave, social networks, etc) where extreme events, i.e. rogue waves, and synchronization phenomena may occur. We attempt to apply them to analyse irregular ECG fibrillation waveforms and to try to progress in predictability of such events. Universal statistical behaviours in complex systems in nature, offers possibly precursors for the early prediction of the occurrence of catastrophic events in different contexts. The first steps on this route resulted in a some of the publications published in the past. Aleksandra and Marija plan to mix all these statistical concepts (entropy based, waiting time probability, wavelet analysis, random-walk approach, machine learning, neural networks) and apply to ECG and other types of human signals, as those originating from electroencephalography and neuronal phenomena, as well as to the investigation of extreme events in different physical media.
The 2nd CARDIALLY workshop will be held during PHOTONICA 2019 on 26-30 August 2019 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The CARDIALLY researchers from DIASENS Dr Petra Beličev is a Chair of PHOTONICA 2019 Organising Committee and Dr Goran Gligorić is a PHOTONICA 2019 Webdesigner. Please have a look at the conference website: http://www.photonica.ac.rs
Dr Ljupco Hadzievski from the CARDIALLY partner DIASENS will be participating in the Workshop “Photonics for Medical Diagnostics”, which will be held at the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, Aston University, 7-8 September 2018.
This workshop aims to exchange novel biophotonics research ideas and to share our evolving understanding of requirements biomedical applications set for modern testing, imaging and diagnostic equipment. The workshop will comprise of a comprehensive technical program, hosting 15 invited speakers. The workshop will also feature an evening poster session.
